Seto
Japan is the host to the Exposition
of Global Harmony.
The Expo 2005 site is located in central Japan 20km southeast of
Nagoya International Airport. Nagoya is accessible by Shinkansen
the 'bullet train' connecting Tokyo and Osaka with frequent rail
connections to the Chubu region. The planned Chubu International
Airport is 45km southwest of the proposed Expo site in Seto Aichi
Prefecture.
Aichi
Prefecture is the hub of Japan's transportation network. Aichi Prefecture
has launched three major transportation projects as part of a regional
plan to upgrade its gateway to the world for the 21 first century:
The
Chubu (Central Japan) International Airport
Fully-fledged
international airport targeted to open on March 19, 2005
30 minutes access
time from Nagoya city center
Constructed
on a 470-hectare man-made island in Ise Bay
Three runways
with capacity to handle 20 million passengers a year
The
Second Tomei/Meishin Expressway
Six lane super
expressway connecting Nagoya with Tokyo and Osaka
Expected to
eliminate congestion between Nagoya and Tokyo on the existing Tomei
Express Highway and between Nagoya and Osaka on the existing Meishin
Express Highway
The
Linear Shinkansen Bullet Train System
Magnetic levitation
service capable of traveling at 500 kilometers per hour
Uses clean electrical
energy: less noise and vibration, minimizes impact on the environment
Provides an
alternative transportation route to the Tokaido Shinkansen and helps
to alleviate over-centralization in Japan
Contributes
to a wide area high speed network in Central Japan by linking with
the Chubu International Airport and the Second Tomei/Meishin Expressway
25
million people will visit...
Business and
industry connected to Expo 2005 can expect considerable exposure
of their related interests. It is estimated that 25 million people
will visit the Expo 2005 site in Aichi Prefecture - which is located
near the port city of Nagoya, the third largest city in Japan. The
Aichi Prefecture is the nation's top industrial area, producing
2 % of the worlds GNP. At the heart of the region is Toyota City,
the home of Toyota Motor Corp. and many other leading edge manufacturers
who have interests in machine tools, aerospace technologies, food
stuffs, textiles, ceramics and woodworks.
