ECO-COMMUNITIES

The Expo 2005 sub-theme: "Eco-communities" was created to provide symposiums, forums, and joint research and experimentation between collaborating government, industry, and local and international interest groups. Participants are encouraged to share knowledge on this theme in the months leading up to the official opening of Expo 2005 at which time an experimental prototype eco-community will be created.

"If EXPO 2005 can exhibit a new prototype of creative and harmonious recycling, it can serve as a guide to Asia's future and provide answers to global environmental issues."

HASHIMOTO Ryutaro
Former Prime Minister of Japan

Events are also being planned that will give visitors the opportunity to discover new eco-sensitive technologies as well as any cultural and artistic interfaces that exist between nature and technology. There are even plans for the Expo 2005 site eco-community to become a node in an international network of eco-community experiments which will hopefully develop as we progress into the next millennium.

The eco-community will be an integral part of local community planning and will draw upon the best insights and technology from all over the world. It will incorporate new energies and other resource technologies so that humans can live in harmony with nature as part of an "eco-cycle society" that preserves and enhances the global ecosystem while providing improved health and welfare for everyone.

New insights and technologies that arise from the effort to create the eco-community will possibly lead to new industries spun-off from various experiments and discussions. This will hopefully contribute to expanding business and trade under the banner of sustainable growth.
