Thinking
About the Environment
An Asian Perspective
The people of Japan have long
celebrated the natural beauty and intrinsic value of their surroundings.
They are a society characterized by their beautiful tradition of
arts and culture.
Yet, despite centuries of cultural
and scientific knowledge that has risen from a natural connection
to the land and sea, there still remains something to be learned.
The ancient wisdom of nature has been forgotten in the hurried progress
of a global industrial/technological era that is now upon us.
It is one of the main goals
of EXPO 2005 to become an exposition for provoking questions that
relate to global issues affecting everyone. The planners of EXPO
2005 have ensured that these issues will not only be questioned,
but that experiments be prepared in order to help understand and
even solve many of the problems relating to our mass-consumption
societies.
